Conservation of books, a paper heritage to be preserved for the future
Conserving a book means working on the volume to protect it from the damage that wear and tear, time, humidity and storage in non-optimal conditions can cause to the paper, the binding, the cover, so as to compromise its integrity and legibility.
The task of the conservator is to provide all the tools necessary to ensure the preservation of the book and, if the damage has affected its use, restore its structural and material characteristics through the most respectful and effective interventions, to make it live longer and deliver it to the future.
Since the beginning of the nineties, Bottega Fagnola of Turin has been a reference point for book conservation and its reliability has crossed local and national borders, thanks to the trust that public and private clients, institutional archives, booksellers, antique dealers and collectors place in our professionalism.
We carry out conservation projects for modern books, antique books, photographs, maps, prints, works of art on paper, documents, engravings and boxes. We have the expertise to treat the classic materials of the bookbindery: vellum, paper, leather, and book cloth.
Thanks to our experience in boxmaking, we realize boxes and containers for the preservation and consultation of photographic materials and with particular ph. These materials are often complementary to a conservation operation and can be produced in any format, ad hoc for each individual piece.
Exhibitions setup
Bottega Fagnola provides consultancy and assistance in setting up exhibitions of book and paper heritage. We offer preservation advice to create optimal light and moisture conditions. We take care of the study and creation of supports and book cradles in accordance with the concept of the exhibition and the needs of preservation.
We take care of the handling of the works and their positioning on the showcases. We are the qualified partner for developing exhibition and theme concepts together with the architect who takes care of the set-up.
Reproduction, anastatic copies and facsimiles
In the event that the object is particularly delicate or deteriorated, it is possible to opt for the display of a faithful reproduction, or the creation of a facsimile for didactic purposes.
BOTTEGA FAGNOLA has integrated the knowledge of ancient techniques with new technologies, expanding the preservation approach to digital conservation and providing reconstructions, facsimiles and reproductions for events and permanent exhibitions.
